3 Counties Trophy at Forest Hills Golf Club
3 Counties Trophy at Forest Hills Golf Club
8th August 2018
Wed 8th Aug took us to Forest Hills G. C. near Leicester, where we went to defend the 3 Counties Championship against Leicester & Rutland and Cambridgeshire.
Having won this for the past 5 years we were eager to win this 10 out of 16 man Stableford team event
The day was fine and sunny with a slight breeze, which was a pleasant change from the last month.
Those with good scores claimed the course to be in great condition whilst others not too good, hard bouncy fairways and bumpy greens!
After the dinner Charles Geary, Leicestershire Captain gave us all a belated welcome to the event , after which our Captain Graham responded on behalf of all present.
Prizes were presented for nearest the pin on the short holes ( none for Derbyshire players). Ian Marr was our star, being best score overall with 39points, Bob Roberts 2nd with 38 and Tony Broadhurst 3rd equal with 37. Despite this we were just pipped by Leicester and Rutland with 345 against our 342. The salver was therefore handed over on loan for a year.
It had been a most enjoyable day, starting with a full breakfast and ending with a carvery, as always our hosts had looked after us well. We have plenty of time to get in form for a home fixture next year.
