Captains Day at Shirland Golf Club

Our Captain Graham Naylor held his Captains Day at Shirland G.C. on the 1st August 2018 and 64 players took part in the 4 BBB format competition.

There are 5 par 3’s on the Course and the Captain’s wife had been very busy painting water colours of all 5 for presentation to the nearest to the pin winners. On the 2nd David Hutchinson, the 5th Peter Wilson, the 10th Bob Overton, the 12th John Wright and the 17th Ray Boot.

There were 6 players recording 2’s Ken Swift, Peter Freeman, David Hutchinson, Steve Bradley, Bob Overton and Andrew Scowen who managed 2. Scoring on the day was very good in fact 50 % on the pairs carded 40 points or better. 5th place went to Roger Hanks & John Wright of Mickleover G.C. on 43 points B9 countback, 4th place to Pat Cliffe & Roger Thorley of Stanedge G.C. with 44 points again on B9 countback 3rd place to Ron Clarke and Tony Gee of Buxton High Peak G.C. also with 44points but on B6 countback, 2nd place to Andrew Scowen & Paul Waring of Buxton High Peak G.C. with 45 points and the winners were Adrian Shaw of Shirland G.C. and his partner Andrew Dale of Ormonde Fields G.C. with a total of 47 points.

Richard Parker Captain of Shirland the Host Club welcomed our members to his Club and expressed the hope that they had all enjoyed the day. Society Captain Graham Naylor responded and thanked all who had assisted in making his Captains day so successful.

Andrew Dale expressed his gratitude that both he and his partner Adrian Shaw had been able to “knit together” so well as a pair enabling them to win the Competition. He didn’t anticipate being lucky enough to repeat their scoring success again in the near future.
