Intercounties Competition at Erewash Valley Golf Club

28 June 2018

The annual match between Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire took place at Erewash Golf Club on Thursday 28th June.
The exceptionally good weather we have experienced this week continued and all enjoyed a wonderful day. The fairways were hard with plenty of run not always in the right direction and the greens quite quick. As the day went on speed of play slowed as players found the warm conditions tiring.
On completion of their rounds everyone sat down to excellent replenishment provided by the Club and took the opportunity to replace their lost liquid.
Whilst waiting for the presentation most took advantage of watching England losing to Belgium in the final group round of the Football World Cup.
The presentation took place at half time Graham Naylor Captain of Derbyshire the Host Society welcomed all to Erewash and then each of the County Presidents gave their own thanks to all who had helped in making the day run so well.
Competition for the Alan Packer Trophy proved to be very fierce with 3 Counties still being in the mix with 4 games to go.
Derbyshire managed 2 good counting scores in the final 2 games to secure the outright win with 348 points Leicestershire & Rutland just managed to pip Nottinghamshire by 1 point with 345 points to 344. Northants achieved a creditable score of 336 points with 10 to count out of only 13 players.
