Intercounties Competition at Shirland Golf Club
Intercounties Competition at Shirland Golf Club
5 June 2019
4 teams compete each year playing 18 holes Stableford. The aggregate of the best 10 scores from each team of 24 to be declared the winner.
It was a brilliant sunny day with the ground fairly soft after recent rain. The staff had done their bit with the greens having been ironed and playing true and fast. Some members declared the course long and difficult with several holes unreachable in par – must have been age catching up or handicaps not rising fast enough.
The whole event was well organised with the ladies section not only providing refreshments at the half way station but also checking all the cards.
The overall winners were Notts, the home team, with Derbys ending third.
There were prizes for the best score in each team with Paul Waring being our champion with 38 points.
Those Derbyshire scores to count were:
Paul Waring 38 Tony Broadhurst 33
Tony Cooper 37 Derek Northin 31
John Wright 36 Ken Holland 31
Ian Waite 33 Les Haines 30
Martin Eyre 33 Stuart Boags 30
All had a great time and even hoped to be selected next year, Newark being a great venue for a day out
