We all looked forward to a great day out at Burton. As always, we were not disappointed, despite the previous night’s heavy rain which had made the course play long and the greens rather slow to start with. None the less after the sun warmed things up a little all was well with the usual fast and tricky greens.
We were again made most welcome by the Pro, Gary and the catering staff. Later we all enjoyed a great meal which was excellent value for money.
It was rather disappointing to note the lack of entrants. This has been a problem all year which is in line with other county societies. The committee would welcome any ideas as to how we could increase the numbers at our functions, these are always great value days with great comradery.
There was a very informal prize giving at which Captain Derek, having made a short speech – including another of his great jokes – presented prizes to the following:
1st Ian Marr 34 pts, 19 on back 9
2nd Tony Broadhurst 34 pts, 18 on back 9
Nearest pin on 6th John Wright, 10’ 1” John also had the best gross round with 32 pts off 4 h’cp
