Presidents Salver at Chevin Golf Club

Chevin Golf Club hosted the Presidents Day on Monday 9th July 2018. 43 players took part on a sunny day with a light breeze. There were several good scores and perhaps the highlight of the day was a Hole in One on the 14th by last year’s winner Andrew Dale.
There was a plethora of 2’s the most significant being Peter Taylor on the 233 yard Par 4 6th. Other winners of a sleeve of Logo balls were David Poynton , Ron Clarke Frank McCabe, Peter McGrath and Alan Cunningham. Andrew Dale and Peter Taylor managed two sleeves. The Best Senior and best veteran prizes went to Roger Hanks of Mickleover with 35 points ( back 9) and Tom Hitchcock of Matlock 37 respectively.
4th Place went to Richard Burley with 39 points, just being edged out of 3rd place by his Mickleover Club colleague Graham Finney also on 39 points. Second place went to Paul Hambly of Bakewell with 40 points who went out in the first 3 ball and topped the leader board until the very last game when the eventual winner of the Presidents Salver Alan Cunningham of the host Club Chevin came in with 42 points.
David Poynton Captain of Chevin Golf Club welcomed all to his Club and expressed the hope that they had all enjoyed the day.
Society Captain Graham Naylor then presented Peter Wilson with his prize outstanding from Derbyshire’s win in the recent 4 Counties Competition.
The Society President Mike Whalley thanked all those who had taken part for the support they had given him. He went on to thank the Society members who had contributed to making it a successful day for all also Chevin Golf Club for the use of their facilities and the excellent after golf meal. He complimented the green staff on being able to produce such excellent greens during the current period of extremely dry weather.
The President then presented the various prizes and as usual this season the Captain’s wife had produced a water colour of the 14th Hole which was presented to Andrew Dale for his Hole in One.
Alan Cunningham as well as receiving the Presidents Salver was presented by the President with a Vintage bottle of Wine from Ernie Else’s estate.
Alan thanked the President and his playing partners and also the committee for organising the day.
