Sydney Cartwright Salver at Chesterfield Golf Club

The first competition of the year was held at Chesterfield Golf Club this year. The weather was unseasonably cold and windy but the heavy rain which had been predicted a few days earlier held off and in the afternoon even the sun made an appearance.
Martin Bonynge Captain of Chesterfield welcomed the Society members to his Club and expressed the hope that they had all enjoyed the day.
Mike Whalley the Society’s new President was then introduced and responded by saying how honoured he was to have been elected to succeed Spen Stanway. He promised to give the Society his full support.
Graham Naylor the 2018/19 Society Captain then presented the prizes.
The scoring proved very close for all prizes with a spread of only 4 points.
The winner of the Cartwright Salver with 36 points was Adrian Shaw of Shirland Golf Club, in second place was Ken Holland of Burton upon Trent Golf Club with 35 points and the third and fourth places were resolved by count back on the last 6 holes both players having achieved 34 points.
Paul Robinson of Ormonde Fields Golf Club just edging out Bob Gibbs of Horsley Lodge Golf Club.
The Best Senior was Nick Round of Allestree Park Golf Club with 33 points and the Best Veteran was John Simmons of Matlock Golf Club with 32 points.
Nearest the pin was Alan Cherry of Chesterfield Golf Club with 5’0½”. He received a water colour painting painted by the Society Captain’s wife of the 6th hole on which the feat had been achieved. The only two was scored by Peter Taylor of Tapton Park Golf Club.
The winner Adrian Shaw thanked his playing partners and the Chesterfield Club for the excellent course and food and the Captain reiterated the Society’s thanks to all who had contributed to an excellent day’s golf.
